Scope and content

A roughly rectangularly shaped sack. On one side of the item, several Chinese characters appear in black. Per Mrs. S. Kilvert, the artifact is known as a "jack doy" (made from water grass). It was used to carry rice, beans, grain, etc. similar to how a gunny sack was used. The draw string is known as a "sing jia". The inscription on the artifact translates as "Shung On Co." Note: The artifact needs to be soaked in water on an annual basis in order to keep it from becoming brittle. PH1 2006
