Right side of cardboard reads: "1941, Best Wishes for a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year...", with designs, star and flowers. Reverse side reads: "Trouist, Trorist, Colnf (?) 204Main St. Vancouver. Belmont Confection, 999 Granville St. Vancouver, B.C., Holy Ladge Grocery, 1254 Mavie St., 105 Lardova(?) St., Van, By Columbia Conf. 292 Calumbia St. Van" Dimensions: 5.1 cm x 7.5 cm. A black and white Postcard. This postcard shows ten unidentified Chinese men standing on a front porch of a unidentified building. At the front of this building there is two signs above the door way. These signs are printed in Chinese characters. There is also a fence on this front porch. There is also a window on each side of the doorway. L.13.8cm W.8.6cm Post card was mailed from Port Arthur Ontario on July 12, 1939. It is addressed to Mrs. Lee Chong, Box 57, Barkerville, BC. There are three columns of chinese characters hand wretten on the left side of the back of the card. Fourth man from left may be Ken Wong, Beatrice Keen's husband. Translaton of inscription: "The one in the middle wearing glasses is Consul Hui. Taken on June 21st. Mailed by Jie"

A rectangular shaped stained wood abacus with several components missing. The artifact has an encircling frame component which is held in place by two lengths of steel wire. There were originally eleven transverse circular wooden components, each with donut-like parts on them. Only one is left. Four donut-like parts have been attached to the artifact by two lengths of white string. There is a longitudinal support. PH1 2006

A large wood and metal school abacus. The artifact consists of a triangular metal base from which a large circular lathe turned segment rises vertically up to the undersurface of a wooden square area. Extending horizontally from one side of this square area to the opposing side are a total of ten circular metal rods. Upon each of these rods in turn has been placed a total if ten circular wooden beads which range in colour from green to red to blue to brown. N.B. Originally acquired from Aberdeenshire, England. A rectangular shaped wooden abacus. The artifact consists of a box-like frame which in turn has been divided longitudinally through the use of a rectangular shaped piece of wood. A total of eleven circular wooden segments and two circular brass segments rise from the bottom of the abacus to its top. On each of these segments there appear a total of seven circular wooden disks. PH1 2006 Ph2 2007

A rectangular shaped dark brown coloured all wood abacus. The artifact exhibits four edge segments that in turn have been horizontally connected by a rectangular shaped segment of wood. 'V' shaped joints appear at the points where the connecting segment joins the side portions. Also evident are a total of 11 circular segments which connect the top and base of the artifact and which respectively pass through the horizontal connecting segment. Each of the circular segments passes through the centre of a total of 7 donut shaped wooden components. For each vertical item, two donut-like components appear above the horizontal connector, while 5 donut-like components appear below the connector. PH1 2006

The artifact exhibits four edge segments that in turn have been horizontally connected by a rectangular shaped segment of wood. Mitre joints appear at the points where the connecting segment joins the side portions. Thin brace braces appear at the four corners and on the cross piece that separates the two segments. Also evident are a total of 11 circular segments which connect the top and base of the artifact and which respectively pass through the horizontal connecting segment. Each of the circular segments passes through the centre of a total of 7 donut shaped wooden components. For each vertical item, two donut-like components appear above the horizontal connector, while 5 donut-like components appear below the connector. Original Reproduction # R 2116 1997/10/27 Black background with gold lettering., Chinese writing appears at the top of a metal plate on one edge of the artifact. Underneath is "Lotus-Flower Brand and more Chinese writing. At the bottom of the plate appears " Made in the Peoples Republic of China". At one side is a picture of a Lotus., inscription Ph2 2007

One wooden abacus, purchased new. The wooden frame is sealed in a dark varnish and protected at the corners by brass fittings. The thirteen bars hold seven beads, divided by the beam. Five beads sit below the beam, and two above. In the curatorial documentation for the abacus is a single sheet of instructions describing how to calculate using the beads, bars and the beam.
