Custodial history

Used by the mother of Mrs. S. Kilvert (donor) in China. Used at markets for carrying vegetables.

Scope and content

A circular plain brown Chinese wicker shopping basket. The base of the artifact exhibits a 1.6 cm. high angled protrusion, upon which the item rests. The main body portion of the artifact exhibits a vertical side. Upon this respectively appear a red, white and green representation of flowers, as well as a red Chinese design. Attached to the side area, and extending in an inverted 'U' shape above it, are a total of four narrow strips of wicker. These have been interwoven at the top of the artifact. A segment of red string has been attached to one set of wicker strips, and to this in turn has been attached a circular wicker lid. This exhibits a circular base, a vertical side portion, a twisted wicker rim, and a top segment which has a centre opening. A portion of light brown tape has been affixed to an area of the side and base of the lid. PH1 2006 PH2 2007
