Arrangement
David Lai's temporary interpretation, 1988: "It is possible that once a year, the Hung people made offerings of food, paper reproductions of money, and daily necessities such as clothing to the spirits of those newly dead and those long since passed away. Services were made for unhappy lonely souls who did not have human descendants to care for them. It was believed that prayers together with the accompanying gifts of food and paper clothing would make the destitute spirits happier and more comfortable and therefore would not hunt the living. However, it might be possible that each booklet was a register of donors to worship a deceased individual."
