Scope and content

A non-folding bamboo-framed, paper covered fan. The blade of the fan is oval-shaped, but it is wider at the top than at the bottom. The paper covers all of the blade, except the bottom, near the handle. One side of the blade is cream-coloured with black lettering, which reads: P.O. Box 361 TELEPHONE 188 DUNCAN TAILOR SHOP High-class Tailoring Cleaning, Pressing, Dyeing. DUNCAN, B.C. The opposite side of the blade has an Oriental-style print depicting three Chinese junks with trees & mountains in the background.

Immediate source of acquisition

Duncan Tailoring and Cleaning Shop was owned by M. Okasaki. In the July 23, 1914 Cowichan Leader, he moved from Station Street to the old pool room on Craig Street opposite the Cowichan Leader office. It is listed in the 1914 phone book and then not again until 1917 when the owners are Tsuzi and Takaki. In 1925 and 1933 it is listed on Station Street but gone by 1936.
