The building was located at 143 Trans-Canada Highway West [45559 Yale Road West], and is very likely the old Chinese Masonic Hall. The 1957 Chilliwack directory lists Mrs. B. Woo as the resident at 143 Trans-Canada Highway West.

CM 2320 Unidentified object believed to be a headrest Made of interlocked wood; adjustable and folds flat; bottom with Chinese (Hanzi) characters.

CM 2486 Chopsticks A & B) Identical chopsticks. Made of wood; each has 5 Chinese (Hanzi) characters; cut square at top end and rounded at bottom end.

CM 2347 Chopsticks (A & B) Nearly identical chopsticks. Chopsticks made of wood and dark brown in colour. Hand-made. Chinese in origin.

Photography consists of a group portrait of mill workers posing with a huge fir log loaded on an early truck, at the Orion Bowman sawmill at the base of Promontory. Wheels on truck have wooden spokes and hard rubber rims. Three men standing in front appear may be First Nations and/or Chinese.

In 1908 Orion Bowman built his first sawmill on Teskey Road near Upper Promontory, apparently on the farm of Edward Thornton. This first mill suffered a fire in June 1908. An article in the Progress reported the cause of the fire as blowing sparks and cinders from the refuse heap at the rear of the saw dust carrier. The skeleton frame of the building quickly gathered upon the alarm of fire. The Bowman mill was expanded in 1912, and was moved to the foot of Promontory hill, just eat of Promontory Road, two years later. A brief history of the Bowman mills appears in The Fraser Valley Challenge. Both mills were steam powered whilst much of the logging was with horses, wagons and skid roads in the Promontory Hill area. Shortly after the mill was moved to the lower Promontory site, a narrow gauge railway was constructed from the mill, both to the west and to the east. The east section of the rail line extended about four and half miles to Upper Prairie or Big Ditch Road.

CM 3703 Table Scarf Silk with embroidery; square off-white, with pale pink, blue, gray, green floral and bird designs in Chinese style.

CM 3846b Chinese Banknote or Paper Money Dark red graphics printed on both sides of paper rectangle; face of man on front; scene tower and buildings on back. Numbered 3B 436674. Lettering reads in part, "THE CENTRAL BANK OF CHINA / ... / TEN CENTS."; reverse lettering reads: "Thomas De La Rue & Company, Limited, London".

CM 4306 Medicine Bottle Clear glass; bubbled; Chinese characters (?) barely visible in glass on round base; vertical sides; one/third bottle's height is the neck and spout; brown shrunken cork inside.

CM 4470 Chinese Silk Dress The top has purple background with orange embroidery, trim and lining. Embroidery consists of trees, mountains, boat, bridge and pagoda. 27.5 mm slit up either side. Front ties and knots for fastening attached to rosette device. Half length sleeve. Matching dress with mauve/purple lining.

Photograph consists of a view of a horse drawn mechanical hops sprayer between rows of hops, with Chinese boss Sing standing at left behind sprayer.

Photograph is annotated on the back by Marion (Banks) Rowlands, whose father Joseph Banks, was foreman at Hulbert Hop Gardens from 1901 to 1937. Hulbert Hop Gardens were located at the North East corner of Vedder and Stevenson Roads.

Photograph consists of a front 3/4 view of steam ship S.S. Gladys, locked in river ice in winter. A total of eight unidentified men are posing on the large two-tiered sternwheeler. Five men are seen standing on the bow of the ice bound ship. Three men are seen standing at front of second level. Gentleman wearing white apron at top left appears to be Chinese Canadian.
