The photograph is of a hydraulic monitor working the Kwong Lee, Wing Kee Gold Mine at Barkerville in the 1880s. That is what is written in ink on the original .
A group of Chinese men are sitting on a manicured lawn in what appears to be the garden area of a home. The clothing they are wearing suggests a formal meeting. Some are wearing ribbons attached to their lapels. (see also P6396) Borg/Bong(?) Ching Mah, Chinese School teacher at bottom right.
A pair of girls' Chinese cotton pants. They are blue with floral motifs sewn into the fabric. At the base of the legs is a strip of white cloth with black flowers. It has a draw-string waist. These pants are the ones in the photograph 2000.70.1. They were worn by Miss. Florence Tsang daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tsang How Quon. Please note that the previous numbers before 2000.0070.0009 are photographs and are contained in the photograph files.
A girls' Chinese cotton jacket. The jacket is blue with floral motifs sewn into the fabric. The edges of the jacket are strips of white cloth with black flowers. It has a draw-string waist. A cylindrical tin with a lid containing dried yams. The lid has a label affixed printed "Beware of Imitation" "Hong Thye Tea Merchant 41, Telok Ayer Street, Singapore. No. 08789". The tin is rusted and blackened. PH1 2006, PH2 2007
A child's woven cap. It is deep red with stripes of light pink and green near the top and stripes of light pink, green and dark pink at the bottom border. There are Chinese "double happiness" characters woven in on one side in dark pink. Also in the centre of these characters is thread where a gold nugget had been sewn on. PH1 2006 PH2 2007

Artifact 994.963.137 A consists of a small rectangularly shaped piece of clear glass. The edge of the upper surface displays a background of red and white paper, upon which is a border of gold paper. Artifact 994.963.137 B consists of a cardboard core, that in turn has been covered with a piece of paper that has red and white abstract designs on it. PH1 2006

A rectangularly shaped paper packet. The exterior component consists of a piece of paper upon which respectively appear red Chinese characters and two different types of abstract designs. Artifact 994.963.136 B is a second (internal) packet component. It has been decorated with faded red Chinese characters on its exterior. Artifact 994.963.136 C consists of a piece of paper that has pink fabric on one surface. The item has been folded, and faded red Chinese characters appear on its exterior. PH1 2006
A small, rectangularly shaped segment of paper, upon one side of which appear a large number of machine-made black ink Chinese characters. These appear in two columns, and each column has a "heading" of Chinese characters. The columns have been surrounded by a border of black and white floral designs. PH1 2006
