One of the Hoy daughters, sitting on the floor of the porch, at the Hoy House in Quesnel, with her right foot behind her head. She is wearing shorts and a matching top and Chinese slippers.
Rusted metal numbers "825." Each number has four small holes in the metal for affixing the number. The number is probably from an adjoining building by the Chinese Benevolent Association building at 824 Agnes Street. This latter location was formerly the Chinese Hospital, built in 1904, and later converted into the Chinese Benevolent Society building. When the society disbanded in 1980, it donated the site to the City in thanks for the many years of its support through its tax free status.
This wooden address plate measures 8 by 33 cm. The numbers "824" are cut vertically into the wood and painted yellow. There are two nail holes, one on either end.
Newspaper clipping from the Bulletin of Chief and Petty Officer Association dated July, 1989. Soue Kee emigrated to from China in 1909 to Esquimalt. He was sponsored by the father of Jack (Uncle Jack) Tang, Yip Tang. He left his family, wife and children in China to come and work for a better life. His brother, Tang, Kam Hey, joined him for a short time but went back to China, Soue never did return home to his family but is very likely to have transpacific ties to the family in china today. A very old Chinese almanac. It has no spine, but the pages are bound together by a red string in four places along the spine edge. Since the Chinese read from right to left, all of the following cover descriptions will be referred to in this way. The front cover is brightly decorated, predominant colour being red. It shows a large picture of a man sitting down with five small boys pulling an open sack before him; the sack appears to contain fruit. The back cover is pink with red lettering.
One (1) red wooden Chinese altar crown. The front portion has a moulded bottom edge, and the side and bottom pieces are at right angles to the front of the artifact.
A wooden board with two (2) sides and a top. Red clothing has been affixed to the top. There are several layers of paper on the board. The artifact has been inscribed with Chinese lettering, which may refer to the Chi Kung Tong.
