This tapestry was gifted to Dr. Robert Lawrence in appreciation for his services to the Chinese community in Chinatown, Cumberland B.C. He was given this gift when he moved to Vancouver B.C. -The Chinese Community in Cumberland had this tapestry made in China for $500.00. Dr. Robert Lawrence was the first doctor in the Cumberland area and he was also the treasurer of the original hospital board. Dr. Lawrence served the Cumberland miners from 1890-1900.

The back side of this box shows an image a Ginseng plant and a man cooking; one side is an English description of the extract and the other is in Chinese characters; the side description also reads: “Manufactured by Bow Woo Tong, 433 Honan Road, Shanghai, China.
This item is a New Year greeting card from Mr. Hwang Li-Yen and Mrs. Whang Mai-Syen; the card reads “Hong On Tai Jan Som Hop Toy Sun, Canton, China.” ; the alternate side reads “Hong Tai Inn, Canton, China.”
