A large paperback Chinese almanac written in Chinese except for some pages which have many English words. The pages are bound with thread or string which literally has sewn the pages together. Over the spine and binding a red tape has been applied. The front cover has a picture of an old man leaning on a staff with two children, a reindeer and a bird around him. At the bottom of the book, on the page-ends, is written in felt pen: "1988" and two Chinese characters. The book is read from right to left. The paper is newsprint.
A square, cake tin (a) and separate lid (b) from the Pekin Restaurant (proprietor Sue Lem Bing). The inside and bottom of the tin and bottom of the lid are unpainted. There are many small painted Chinese characters on both parts. The only English lettering on the tin is the manufacturer's name, Ko Shing Tea House, and their address. Near the centre of the lid is a yellow sticker with the price 5.70, printed on it.

A folding Chinese lantern from the Pekin Restaurant (proprietor Sue Lem Bing). It consists of two round wooden blocks of unequal size, connected by two, long parallel, thin, metal rods. On the outside of the smaller of the two blocks is a metal loop to hang the lantern. There is a paper label on the side of this block which reads: MADE IN HONG KONG. There are seven, thinner, metal bent rods which also run between the blocks and are placed around the circumference of the blocks. The lantern covering is attached to these bent rods. The rods rotate to allow the lantern to unfold. When unfolded, it forms a hexagon-shaped inverted bell. The blocks are red coloured; the lower block has a gold band around the middle. The majority of the covering is a light purple background, with flowers, a bird and Chinese lettering on it.
A wooden Chinese checkers board. It is rectangular and is divided into 72 squares (8 x 9), marked off in pencil. The three Chinese figures down the centre are 7, 14 and 21. In the days of steam logging the Chinese would while away the few idle hours they had playing games of chance. This checkers-type game was one such. In Chinese, it is called "Cheong Kay" (Xiang Qi). On the board, the two competing parties are separated by the Pacific Ocean.

A 12-page, 12-month 1975 calendar from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. It consists of a single, rectangular sheet with the smaller, individual calendar pages, attached near the bottom of the sheet. Occupying most of the sheet is a copy of a Chinese print titled: Peak with Pine Trees Embraced by Clouds. It was originally done by Ping Kwong Chung. There is a thin, black, metal bar across the top and bottom of the sheet.
A six-page, 12 month calendar from the Bank of Montreal. It consists of a back sheet, to which the pages (2 months each) are attached, on the lower half. On the upper half is a black and white sketch titled; Pender Street at Main Vancouver Chinatown; by R.D. Wilson. The sketch and calendar pages are framed by a dull red border.

Two-stringed Chinese fiddle like an "ehr-hu” but different in several respects. It is a bulkier instrument and is completely made of wood. The strings are gut, as is the "gold horse”; loops that hold the strings in towards the body along the neck length. The body is a short cylinder with a rounded bottom that has been hollowed out from the top and then covered with a thin flat piece. The bottom is still partially covered but has a pattern of five holes cut into it. A pitchy or tar-like substance has been used to hold the neck to the body.
This three-stringed instrument has a long, thin, wooden neck curved like a cello, the head being scroll like. Three hexagonal pegs fit into the head to hold the strings made of gut. On the neck, near to the head, a bridge made of bone is held by more gut; this is also called the "gold horse". The body, a flat rounded but roughly rectangular shape, is made of wood open at both ends but covered with snake skin. Metal bands hold the snakeskin in place. The strings are attached to the body with a bone "toggle" and wire clips.
A 3/4 length loose fitting Chinese style jacket with very wide sleeves. It is right front closing at the neckline and right side seam with black silk cord loops and small black buttons. The main material is turquoise jacquard silk with silk embroidery flowers, dragons and butterflies in shades of pink, blue and white. There is a wide, white, silk border on all edges of the jacket and sleeves with decorative scalloped edges at the side seam slits, front closures and around the neck. The jacket is fully lined with slub-weave cotton in a blue green colour.
A Chinese bamboo brush with a lid. It was used to do calligraphy, sumi and watercolors. There are Chinese characters on it written in green and red. The brush itself is made of little fine white hairs. Donated with artist's box (CVM 999.038.067).
Twelve glass Chinese markers or pieces for a Chinese game. They are round in shape and smooth in texture. There are nine white, one blue and two green markers.
A brown glass 'SLOAN'S LINIMENT' bottle with a yellow lid and label. The label has a drawing and signature of 'Dr. Earl S. Sloan' and Chinese characters. There is an ingredient list on the side. This product is by 'STANDARD LABORATORIES INC. MORRIS PLAINS, NEW JERSEY, U.S.A.' There is some liniment inside the bottle. The expiry date is 'JAN 1994'.

There are four metal wires used for a handle replacement. The top has a gold-plated rim and the bottom has a blue, faded trademark with Chinese characters on it.
An earthenware or terracotta watering can. It is reddish-brown in color and has a handle and a spout on the sides. There are various Chinese characters on the side and bottom.
A plastic mechanical Asian doll wearing a light green and yellow dress with a red ribbon on the front. The doll has black hair that is in a braid. She has a plastic magnetic plate on the top of her head to carry a jug. Two plastic jugs (CVM 998.027.016-.017) came with the doll. The base of the doll is round and fits batteries for the doll to work. It has two wheels on the bottom so the doll can move. The doll came in a box (CVM 998.027.019-.020).
Five small, white game pieces that are made of bone or ivory. The sticks have round edges with a red dot on both ends with the exception of CVM 998.17.5 which has two black dots on the ends and is smaller in size.
