Main body mottled brown, neck dark brown. Neck appears to be glued on.

This object is a short and stout pot that is made of hand thrown pottery. The pot is mainly grey in color with some beige tones throughout the pot. The top of the pot is a bit wider than the rest of the pot with a raised ringed lip at the top. The inside and outside of the pot have a shiny glazed finish the pots texture is quite rough. In a few spots on the pot there are small cracks running down the sides and on the bottom of the object.

This is a small barrel-shaped Chinese container with lid that was used for burning incense. The lid has recessed centre with five openings where the incense was presumably placed to be burnt. The lid is sea foam green with light green vine designs on it. The inside of the container itself is made of a white opaque. The glazed exterior is mainly a sea foam green color with a yellow and purple ring at the top and bottom of the container. There are floral decorations all over the outside of the incense burner with green vines, purple flowers, and blue/purple leaves. The floral decorations are incised in the sides and there are some colorful raised dots around the purple ring. On the edge and bottom of the barrel shaped container are some stamped Chinese characters on in a red color.

“Chinaman Held Up – On Saturday morning last Sang Lee, who lives on Henry avenue, was on his way to Victoria with a load of vegetables and was near Mount Tolmie about 3 o’clock when he met an auto with four men in it. The auto stopped and three of the men go out, one of them caught hold of the horse’s head and the other two made the Chinaman step down and then they went through his pockets, where were, fortunately for Sang, empty. Finding no money on the Chinaman one of the men took a case of tomatoes and started to make off with it. The Chinaman caught hold of the highway man and attempted to stop him. In the struggle the two went down and the man at the horse’s head ran over and hit the Chinaman in the face. The robbers then made off with the tomatoes. Sang Lee could not see the number of the car, but notified the police as soon as he could get to a phone about the robbery.”

“Chinaman Gored To Death By Bull – Town Pung, a well-known Chinaman in the district as a farmer, also as a charcoal burner, was gored by a bull on Friday last and died as the result in the hospital on Saturday.
The bull belongs to Mr. J. B. Knowles our popular milk man. Mr. Knowles was not at home at the time, and Town was warned by Mrs. Knowles not to go near the bull but persisted in having his way with such fatal results.
Mr. N. Gurton and Mr. Charles Campbell both of the Centre Road, went to his assistance and were successful in securing his release from the attacks of the animal, by a pitch fork, and hurried him to Dr. A. G. Beale, who rendered the unfortunate man all the assistance possible and then rushed him off to the Victoria hospital.”

Quong Lee Yuen, the Chinese merchant, has moved his stock of provisions and other goods into his new store, two doors west of his present location on Beacon avenue, on Wednesday of this week. The handsome new building has only been recently erected and the finishing touches in the shape of a good coat of paint inside and out gives it quite an attractive appearance. The proprietor has spent considerable money on the fixing up of this new store and he is justly proud of its appearance.

Chinaman Meets Death In Runaway Accident
A fatal accident happened to one of the Chinamen who bought Mr. Wray’s place recently. While driving a team hitched to a heavily laden wagon down the steep grade on the highway that leads from the West Saanich Road to the coast and close to his home, the team, it is supposed took fright and bolted. No one saw the accident but the wagon with the pole broken was afterwards found and the dead man was lying beside it, the wheels having crushed him.

I am sure many will miss the friendly smile of Wong See, his kindly ways had crept into the hearts of many people. I was so pleased to learn some loving hands have provided the means during the last few days of his sojourn here, whereby he may receive rest and comfort. I am sure these dear people will receive their reward, for inasmuch as ye do it to the least of these my little ones ye do it unto Me, and as a friend who had many spiritual talks with our departed friend I feel now his work down here is done, he is at home with his Saviour whom he loved and silently served.
