Scope and content

The lid of the ink pad is made of metal that has been painted red with a black design on the top. The design is of a building with trees beside it and clouds in the sky. There is a checkered pattern bordering the picture and words on the tops read "No. Peerless, Self Inking, Stamp Pad, Box Made in U.S.A." The lid has flat edges which sit inside to clips on the bottom half of the ink pad holding it closed. The top lid is attached to the bottom of the ink pad by a small cylindrical hinge running down the back of the object. When opened there is severe rusting and ink buildup on the underside of the lid. The bottom part of the object is also made of metal which was silver in color but is covered in rust. This bottom is also rectangular and has two half rounded clips on the edges. Sitting on top of the bottom piece is a hard cloth rectangle that presumably was once wet from the ink but is dry now. It is slightly purple in color and the edges are rusting and have dry ink build up around them. The bottom of the object is gold in color and has not been affected by rust. Running just below the hinge on the backside of the object are the numbers 500018.
