Scope and content

Chinese four-stringed instrument that can be described as "mandolin-like". It is made of wood with a short neck attached to a large flat round body. The pegs are large and hexagonal and are set in a curving decorative head. It has a series of frets with a wooden bridge. The strings are of gut and stretch from the pegs to a metal clip that is attached to a bone piece.

This instrument was found in the basement of Wallace Carter (of Carter's Music Store) after his death. It is believed it may have come from Duncan's Chinatown.
