Scope and content

A group of 26 unidentified men at the La Fontain Mine, Lightning Creek. Four appear to be Chinese, some sitting and some standing outside a building, most appear to wearing work clothes. Two of the Chinese men appear to be cooks as they are wearing the traditional 'whites' of kitchen workers. La Fontain mine was in operation from around 1898 to 1910 (needs further research to be specific), but was unsuccessful. It was located just down stream from Stanley. It was the successor company to the Eleven of England, and used pumps to drain the depths of the gravel in Lightning Creek - pumping around 2 million gallons a day for a full year. There are reports on the company in the Minister of mines reports for British Columbia.
