Scope and content

A long stemmed Chinese pipe; overall length, 11 3 4". Cherrywood stem 7"_ set in cork. Detachable curved mouth-piece with screw thread for stem. Mouthpiece either of bamboo or some compostion. The stem is set into a porcelain or china bowl with silvered metal decoration (around the stem base and around and over bowl's mouth). Base of bowl is black porcelain (or china in the shape of probably a shell (with 7 flairs). The black porcelain is separated from the bowl with gold paint. Bowl has a green-white spattered design, bowl is 3" long, 1" diameter, octagonal in shape. There is a 5 8" silvered metal rim around the lip of the bowl (1 8" of the metal is cut in a lace edge design). A hinged lid with curved handle (both silvered metal) covers the bowl. There are six smoke openings on the edge of the lid. In the black porcelain is an imprint in gold lettering, while in the green porcelain is another gold imprint, no lettering. Two green cords with two green tassles are attached to the artifact, from the stem base to the mouthpiece. (Diagram) PH1 2006 PH3 2008
