Purchased from Mrs. Gerri Hoy. (604) 992-5827 Her father-in-law, one C. D. Hoy was a well known general store and hardware merchant in the Quesnel arrea. He was also a photographer in Barkerville. Collection 991.78. purchased for the sume of $1,000.00 (CA).

Scope and content

A circular silveroid and glass pocket watch. The back of the item has been decorated with a copper filled design of a man on horseback. Around the edge of the back there appears a pattern of small incisions into the case. At the top of teh item there appears a circular winding stem, at the upper end of which is a dome shaped knob. This had been decorated with numerous vertical incised lines. Passing through the winding stem is a circular ring, and attached to this is a short segment of string. To this in turn has been attached a rectangularly shaped segment of paper, upon which "C. D. Hoy & Co." and "Quesnel, B.C." both appear in purple coloured stamped letters. The face of the artifact is white in colour, and around its edge Roman numerals I through V ahd VII through XII are evident. Also appearing around the edge are red Arabic numbers which are in a sequence of 5 through 60 in five unit intervals. (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.) In the central portion of the artifact's face, "Grand Trunk Pacific" and "Specialy Adjusted" both appear in black print letters, while "Special" appears in red print lettering. In the lower portion of the face of the artifact there appears a circular seconds indicator. Around its edge there appears a sequence of black numbers from 10 to 20 in units of ten. In addition, there is a black seconds hand. In the central portion of the artifact's face, "Grand Trunk Pacific" and "Specialy Adjusted" both appear in black print letters, while "Special" appears in red print lettering., Grand Trunk Pacific, and, Specialy Adjusted, and, Special, inscription PH1 2006
